This is the first of our
squad levels at the Monbulk Aquatic Club. Junior
Squad is the transition squad between the learn-to-swim type programs of a swim
school and competitive level swimming.
This squad then continues
to develop the swimmers who have already learned freestyle and backstroke with
a good understanding of breaststroke. Training sessions are programmed to create
correct competitive swimming techniques, develop breaststroke and butterfly and
increase stamina and fitness. This squad also focuses on teaching the skills of
the sport such as starts and turns.
Although we begin to
introduce competitive swimming to the kids, the emphasis is placed on having
fun, socializing with a new group of friends and promoting health and fitness
for kids.
There are 4 sessions
available for this squad with a recommended minimum attendance of 1 and a maximum
of 3.
Junior State
Swimmers entering this
squad have either developed all four strokes to a reasonable level in junior
squad or are older swimmers who have recently joined the club. Programs are
technically more challenging and promote greater endurance in swimmers.
Training still promotes
enjoyment with an understanding of health and fitness and encourages making new
friends.
At this level most swimmers
are aware of the competition rules and are entering the swim meets recommended
by their coach and/or the team manager. Swimmers
are continuing to develop their fitness, endurance and technique; some may be
aiming for State Qualifying Times.
There are 5 sessions
available for this squad with a recommended minimum attendance of 3 and a
maximum of 5.
(See note for Junior State
training sessions)
Introduction to State level
swimming with increased sessions, higher intensity and volume. Swimmers in this squad
show potential to swim State times over 50M during the current season. With a shift
in training focus to speed and endurance it also focuses on more advanced
technique and fine tuning. The year is planed out
very strictly with phase training aiming the swimmers to be performing at their
best for the major competitions. There are 7 sessions available for this squad
with a recommended minimum attendance of 4 and a maximum of 6.
With all
squads to get the best results training must be consistent every week!
Attention!
The decision for a swimmer to move up or down in squad levels is at the discretion of the coaches in consultation with the committee, letters of invitation will be given to parents for consideration with the swimmer. The swimmer will move squads as soon as practical after written acceptance of invitation.
Consideration of special circumstances in placing swimmers into various squads will be given where the committee and coaches deem this appropriate.
